Religion

As we begin this school year, let us rejoice in God's love and be thankful for all He has given us. Our religion lessons will focus on four specific areas: prayer, character and moral development, social awareness, and scripture.

Prayer

Each morning, we will begin by praying the rosary as well as pray for people in our family, our community and our world. Throughout the year, we will learn prayers associated with our Catholic faith as well as different approaches to prayer in order to more fully develop our "quiet time" wth God.

Character and Moral Development

During our read-aloud time, we will use the Beautiful Feet Teaching Character Through Literature program. With each piece of literature, we will focus on a specific character trait or virtue. Each lesson uses scripture references to aide in developing moral reasoning skills. When appropriate, we will draw parallels to pertinent Bible stories.

Social Awareness

As Catholic Christians, we are called to act for justice. It is our responsibility to teach our children how to treat others with compassion and dignity. Mother Teresa reminds us that "In this life we cannot do great things. We can only do small things with great love." We will be looking at ways we can carry out this message of God's love in our community and our world.

Scripture

As Christians it is always important to read and study the Word of God. Throughout the year, we will focus on various scripture verses and Bible stories as they relate to social awareness, prayer and character development.

Our Catholic faith has a rich heritage filled with many feasts, celebrations, and Holy Days. Throughout the year we will fully participate in these traditions as we strive to grow in our faith and draw closer to our God.

Peace in Christ!
